ROBY, Gloria M. (nee Alexander) Born in Raleigh Twp., Chatham-Kent on May 17, 1915, passed away peacefully with family nearby on March 15, 2005 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital at the age of 89. Predeceased by her beloved husband James. Loving mother of James Roby and wife Janis, proud grandma of Alex and Josh Roby, all of Chatham, Dear sister of Phillip Alexander, Windsor; Ron Alexander, CA; predeceased by brother Arthur Alexander and survived by his wife Jean. Predeceased by parents Ethel and Arthur Alexander. Survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, foster brothers Greg Shreve and wife Joyce of Tecumseh and Orion Shreve and wife Bella of Chatham-Kent. Close cousin of Arnetta Glenn. Will be missed by her godsons Robert Graham and Tommy Lynn, both of Detroit. Special aunt of James Henry Roby and wife Myrtle of Detroit. Gloria was a long time member of the Detroit Chapter of The National Urban League, a strong supporter of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and a long time volunteer of the Art Gallery of Windsor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Buxton and was a Watch Care Member of the First Baptist Church of Windsor. Her passion to travel brought her around the world... Africa, Europe, throughout the U.S.A. and Canada to name a few. Gloria retired from the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Command in Warren, MI after many years of service. She received her piano certificate and enjoyed to teach in her youth. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be receive at the First Baptist Church (710 Mercer St.) Monday March 21, from 12 noon until time of Service of Remembrance at 1 pm. Rev. Rosetta O'Neal officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In kindness, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements under the guidance of the Morris Sutton Funeral Home. A tree will be planted in memory of Gloria Roby in the Morris Sutton Heritage Forest. A dedication service will be held September 25, 2005. All are welcome.
