Patricia Nettie Alice Brown (née Mayers) July 08, 1927 - April 07, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Passed away peacefully on April 7, 2005, surrounded by her loving family at the Chemainus Health Care Centre. Patricia (Pat) was born on July 8, 1927 in New Westminster. Predeceased by her husband, Norman (Norm) and sister Jacqueline Hutton - Burnaby. Survived by her brother Jim Mayers – Powell River and by daughters Lynda Hunter (Ian) – Kamloops; Sue Walmsley (Ian) - Duncan; step daughter Colleen Knorr (Darryl) - Kelowna; sons, Wayne Egeland – Duncan; Rob Merrick – Powell River; Terry Merrick – Powell River; Gary Merrick (Tina) – Powell River. Grandchildren, Paula Jackson (Randy) – Kelowna; Laura Egeland – Powell River; Tera Smith (Garrett) Ladysmith; Jennifer Robson (Darryl); Martin Hunter (Christine) – Kamloops; Phillip and Daniel Knorr – Kelowna; Tiffany and Dylan Merrick – Powell River; great grandchildren – Maegan, Taylor and Alyssa Jackson; Brett Henderson; Sierra and Sophia Smith; Nathaniel and Tanner Robson. Lovingly remembered by companion Romeo Coulombe – Chemainus. Pat worked at many jobs and places during her teen years from waitressing to fish canneries. Married at a young age to Martin Egeland she had son Wayne. She remarried a short time later to Fred Merrick and moved to Powell River in 1952 along with two more children, Lynda and Rob. She subsequently had three more children Sue, Terry and Gary. Pat managed to work as a waitress and as a cashier at Canada Safeway while raising her children. She remarried Norm Brown and moved to Kamloops in 1964 where she worked as a cook at Woodwards, and as a cashier at Canada Safeway. Pat and Norm moved to Cobble Hill in 1973 where she again worked as a cashier at Canada Safeway, Mr. Grocer and the Cowichan Valley Co-Op. Pat also worked for a short time at the Cowichan Golf Course as a cook and at the Sun Valley Market running the lunch counter. Pat loved people and will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, sense of humor, generosity and wonderful cooking and baking. An Angel came to stay a while. She shared with us her angel smile. She taught us in her loving way, how to laugh and how to play. We did not know her angel wing, would take her where the angels sing. And yet, we know it’s where she should be, if she cannot be with you and me. What she has left is her love to share, her angel touch, her angel care. She came to earth and stayed a while, And shared with us her angel smile. Special thanks to all the Doctors, Nurses, and the Staff at the Chemainus Health Care Centre. A Memorial Service and Tea will be held at Sands Funeral Home, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC, on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Flowers are gratefully declined.
