Marshall Dzurko October 30, 1934 - April 14, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Evergreen Funeral Home DZURKO, Marshall October 30, 1934-April 14, 2005 On April 14, 2005 Marshall Dzurko of Calgary passed away suddenly at Rockyview Hospital. Marshall was born in Willingdon, Alberta where he grew up, received his education and then went on to attend the University of Alberta. Upon receiving his teaching certificate at the age of 19, his first position as an elementary teacher was in Oyen, Alberta. Through many years of summer school Marshall attained his B.Ed degree and eventually a Masters degree. His concern for the state of education, his enthusiasm, his diligence and his perseverance earned him the position of Superintendent of Schools for the Acadia School Division. In 1984, Marshall and his family moved to Calgary. He joined Alberta Education as a consultant with the Social Studies Department. Upon retiring he continued pursuing his interests in education, history and archaeology. For many years Marshall served as President of the Archaeology Society of Alberta as well as President of the Heritage Foundation. He enjoyed and looked forward to meetings of the Calgary Knights of the Round Table. Marshall is survived by Sonia, his loving and devoted wife of 50 years; his son Darrell and daughter-in-law Holly of Cadogan, Alberta; his daughter Sharon and son-in-law Michael Silvaggio of Cranbrook, B.C. Missing their Gido are grandchildren: Raven, Jessica (Shane), Candice Dzurko; Trista (Jason), Tyler, Tanea, Tanner Silvaggo; Jordan and Alison Dzurko. Also surviving are daughter-in-law Elaina Dzurko of Port Coquitlam, B.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Predeceasing Marshall were his son Doug March 27, 2004; his parents Andrew and Florence Dzurko; his only brother Vic; his parents-in-law George and Mary Kereliuk; brothers-in-law Clifford and Eugene Kereliuk; nephews Jason Kereliuk and Geoffrey Hauca.
