Owen Robert MacDonald May 14, 1936 - April 18, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) MacDONALD, Owen Robert - 68. It is with great sadness our beloved "Poppy" passed away peacefully Monday, April 18, 2005, in the VG Site, QEII, with his wife and children by his side. Born in Seabright on May 14, 1936, he was a son of the late Gordon and Bernice (Dauphinee) MacDonald. He moved to Halifax in the early 1950's where he met and married the love of his life and best friend, Shirley. Owen was a musician and his enjoyment of music spanned over many years with his band members and band "Lectric Music". He also enjoyed hockey, baseball, camping and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley C. (Pottie); daughter, Cyndi (Scott) Swales; sons, Randy (Cindy), Craig (Gina), Glen (Janice); granddaughters (Poppy's "Brown-Eyed Girls"), Haley, Katie, Shea, and Kiley; only grandson, Cole. He was predeceased by daughter, Laurel Virginia "Lori" in 1968. "Gone, but not forgotten". He is also survived by brother, Jack (Patsy), Glen Haven; sisters, Carrie Smith and Ev Brophy, Halifax; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by brother, Cyril; sisters, Margaret Garrison, Queenie Smith, Jean Childs, Kathleen Paul, Betty Hutchins and Lorna Skinner (Halifax). Owen appreciated the loving attention and support of all his family and friends throughout his illness. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Stephen Couban and his dedicated team, the Medical Day Unit staff and all the doctors and nurses on 8A, VG Site, QEII, who provided compassion and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to Nurse Betty (our angel in disguise). Cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where visitation will be held from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Service 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Ignatius Church, Bedford. Family flowers only. Memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society.
