Nellie May Matchett (née MacTavish) June 16, 1916 - April 05, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre Nellie Matchett (nee: MacTavish) passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on April 5, 2005 with her family at her side. Nellie was born in Cassillis, N.B. on June 16, 1916 to William and Martha MacTavish. In 1940 she married Robert Matchett and moved to Nipigon and the shores of Lake Helen in the spring of 1941. She remained in Nipigon where she and Bob operated Hillside Acres Trailer Park until 1999. Nell’s homemade bread and baked beans are well known and were enjoyed by many. In her later years she passed her time knitting hundreds of pairs of children’s mittens as well as sweaters and hats for each of her great grandchildren. In 2000 she moved to Thunder Bay where she resided until her death. Survived by her children Peggy (Tom) Varga of Moose Jaw, Sharon Wynn of Thunder Bay, Janna (Bob) Stewart of Lindsay, Bob (Isobel) Matchett of Thunder Bay and Jeff Matchett of Thunder Bay; grandchildren Dawnelle (Mark) Brown, Maryl (Shane) Cook, Rob (Lisa) Wynn, Gillian (Enzo) Riccio, Reanna Wynn, Shannon and Mark Stewart, Kelly Ponic, Ryon (fiancée Becky) Matchett, Jean Anne and Elizabeth Dubois; great grandchildren Steven and Morgan Brown, Asia Cook, Zackary and Alexandria Wynn and Riley Ponic; sisters Maudie Sutherland and Verna Jeffrey; brother Allan (Della) MacTavish; sisters-in-law Ida Matchett, Margaret Urquart and Sadie Matchett and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, numerous siblings, husband Bob, son-in-law Bob Wynn and grandson Steven Varga. Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Matchett will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home with services complete in the chapel. Rev. Doug McClure of Nipigon will officiate. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the St. Mary’s Anglican Church Building Fund in Nipigon, Thunder Bay Special Olympics or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
