Clifford was born in Fisher River, where he resided all his life. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 46 years, Emily; his daughters, Diane Murdock, Denise (Vince) Moar, Della (Doug) Sinclair, Irene (Dave) Laroque and Dolly (John) Cochrane; son-in-law, Rick Thickfoot; foster son, Kevin Amos; 27 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Miriam Sinclair and Irene Murdoch; his uncle, William-John (Gloria) McKay; brothers-in-law, Arthur (Ida) McKay, Steve (Sharon) McKay and John (Mary) McKay; sisters-in-law; Rebecca (Alfred) Flett of Winnipeg, Hilda McKay and Jane Mallette, family friend, Mabel Oye of Vancouver and friend, John Bear Sr. of Winnipeg; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Clifford was predeceased by his loving parents, Henry George and Frances Murdoch; his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Gertie McKay; his children, Annabelle Doris Thickfoot, a daughter, a son, and twins in infancy; his brothers, Leonard, Arthur and Russell Murdoch and Wilfred Ross; his sisters, Gladys Murdoch, Christy Cochrane and Elsie Sinclair, grandson, Clifford Eugene Manningway; son-in-law, Larry Stevenson; uncle John George Traverse Sr.; brothers-in-law, Isaac Cochrane, Allen Sinclair, Stanley Sinclair, Edward McKay and Nick Werstuik; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ross, Mary Murdock and Margaret Spence. Clifford attended school in Fisher River until he had to work with his parents at home. When he was young, he helped his dad raise horses and carried on later, until we moved further south on the reserve. Dad worked as a labourer at the Fisher River Sawmill and a carpenter for the Band, in which he helped build our first arena; little did he know that he was going to have many grandsons who played hockey. At the age of sixteen, he started work as a fisherman’s helper, till later when he acquired his own license as a commercial fisherman on Lake Winnipeg for 47 years. He also raised cattle for a number of years. Dad spent a lot of time outdoors, he took pride in taking care of his yard, right to the end of his days he wanted so much to spring clean by raking up the grass and fix things that needed to be done before the bugs and tall grass came. Lately he would just sit outside his home watching the traffic go by, people would honk their horn to say hello, and he would give them a big hello wave right back. Dad so looked forward to family and visitors coming by, especially his grandchildren, they were such a joy to him and mom. He especially liked to make people laugh by telling a joke or sharing funny stories about way back when of just teasing somebody about something. Those who knew our dad will have fond memories and miss the times spent talking with him. Dad has taught us well and his life will forever be celebrated through the memories of times together. See you again Dad, Love you family. We would like to thank the Fisher River Health Centre Staff, PEMH Staff, Fisher Ambulance, Fisher River Cree Nation Chief and Council, the friends and family who stopped by to share their condolences with words of assurance or prayer.
