Alexander "Alex" Prychitko Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully on Thursday, April 28th, 2005, at the Health Sciences Centre, Alexander Prychitko passed away surrounded by his family. Alex is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dot; two sons, Alan (Wanda) and Ron (Brenda); grandchildren, Derek, Alexis, Megan, Tasha and Nicholas; sisters Julia and Olga, and brother Edward. Alex was predeceased by his sister, Annie (1937), his brother Martin (1969) and his parents, William (1968), and Madga (1976). Alex was born in St. Martin, Manitoba. He and Dot operated the original hotel in St. Martin until 1967 at which time they built the new hotel on Hwy #6. Alex loved the business and was considered the hotel’s “PR” man. This family business was known for its fine hospitality and home-cooked meals and Alex was quick to include his sons and extended family in the daily operations of the hotel. Everyone that visited the hotel, would leave with special memories and experiences. They retired and moved to Winnipeg in 1981, at which time Alex began his daily taxi service to the HSC taking Dot to work. Giggi’s greatest love was of his grandchildren and watching their activities. During many special family dinners and get- togethers, the celebration would be quietly interrupted by a few happy tears from Alex. At home, however, if you didn’t want his opinion, you’d better not sit at the kitchen table. This was where the family decisions were made, and many a debate was held. Alex loved all sports and was never afraid to take you up on a friendly wager. “Double or nothing” was usually an option after the game. Alex enjoyed going to the farm in Gypsumville to garden, cut grass and enjoy many family gatherings around the bonfire. The family wishes to thank Olga and Edward for their unwavering support for Dad during his illness and being our second home where we could talk, laugh, grieve, share and reflect. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Father Isidore for his prayers and visits to the hospital. The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, for their constant care and compassion during his lengthy stay, in particular Dr. Rabbe and his dedicated staff in A3 cardiac ICU (3rd floor), respiratory ICU (5th floor) and the post-operation ICUs (7th floor). You kept our family involved, and provided the utmost care, helping us through a difficult time. Giggi, we’ll miss your strong voice and insight. We learned the importance of the small things that make life the miracle that it is - a kind word, a smile, conversations with family and friends, a visit, sharing of food and drink and encouragement for the grandchildren. We know you’re with your parents, family and friends now. We love you and we miss you. Prayers for Alex will be held Monday evening 8:00 PM on May 2nd at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt St., Winnipeg with Divine Liturgy on Tuesday May 3rd at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the HSC Foundation, MS107-820 Sherbrook St., Wpg., MB R3A-1R9
