Lucy Reid Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home With sadness, the family announces the passing of Lucy Reid at the Golden West Centennial Lodge on April 7, 2005. Her beloved husband, Clarence, predeceased her on July 19, 1984. Lucy’s great granddaughter, Mercedes Browning passed away in September 2004; her dearly loved nephew, Claire Johnston predeceased Lucy in January 2004 and her niece, Doreen Beemer passed away in 1982. Lucy was born on September 18, 1906 at the family farm in Belgrove, West Virginia. She was the last member of her family of five brothers and four sisters to pass from this life. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Geraldine Walker (Jim) and Clara Browning (Stuart); five grandchildren, Bill Walker (Doris), Sandra Fogg (Doug), Michael Browning (Elaine), Ronald Browning (Joanne), Mark Browning (Joanne), and Anne Walker as well as nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Also, left to remember Lucy’s loving kindness are her nephews, Burton Johnston (Alma), Lyall Johnston (Jean) and Mary Pat, wife of Claire Johnston. Close to Lucy’s heart was Harvey Beemer. From her family south of the border, is her niece, Elostein Phillips (Don), Joanne Jones (John), Erldine Ingeram (Clyde), and her sister-in-law, Annabelle Rhodes. There are many more nieces and nephews in the U.S. Lucy treasured her special visits by her nephew, David Phillips of Los Angeles. After Lucy’s marriage to Clarence in 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio, they moved to Isabella, Manitoba to reside on a farm. Their next move was to Roland, MB where they farmed until 1941, at which time they moved to Winnipeg. Lucy worked at the Osborne Stadium and later at the Winnipeg Stadium and Arena for many years. She was an excellent homemaker and gardener, making an abode for she and her husband, accomplishing a marriage of 54 years. She moved to the Villa Cabrini in 1986 where she made many friends. Each of us, daughters, nieces, nephews and many friends will miss the loving concern and interest shown to each person. “A MOTHER IS LOVE” God gave the world stars and there was beauty, God gave the world sun and there was warmth, God gave the world rain and there was life, God gave the world mothers and there was love. Many thanks to Lucy’s family physician, Dr. Michele Evans, to her spiritual leader, Rev. Pat Wotton, and to the staff of the Golden West Centennial Lodge who administered excellent care. A funeral service in celebration of Lucy’s life will be held on Monday, April 11, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with Rev. Pat Wotton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Golden West Centennial Lodge.
