Vernon Walter Spence November 21, 1924 - June 12, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) SPENCE, Vernon Walter - 80, Halifax, passed away peacefully on June 12 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late D.J. and Winnifred (Brown) Spence. He was employed with the CN for 36 years. He was an active member of C.R.T. and G.W. Union Local No. 14. He attended the founding convention of N.D.P. in Winnipeg and A.L.E.S. Institute in conjunction with U.N. in New York. He was active in parish life at St. Agnes and recently St. Pius X Church, where he was a reader, Minister of the Eucharist, a member of St. Vincent De Paul Society and of the S. Franciscan Order. Vernon was in R.C.A.M Corps with the 19th Canadian General Hospital overseas during the Second World War, and America Labour Education Service (A.L.E.S). He will be sadly missed by his family and friends in Halifax and Westchester Station. He is survived by his son, Douglas R. (Lynn) Spence, Halifax; sisters, Mildred Kemp, Jean Mayfield, Geraldine Arthur, all of Halifax. He was predeceased by his wife, Pearl Elizabeth (Fleming), and brother, Gerald in childhood. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be today 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Father Duncan MacMaster officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
