WOOD, JAMES CLARENCE 1918-2005 WWII The death of Mr. James Clarence Wood of Fredericton, New Brunswick occurred on June 13th, 2005 at Oromocto Public Hospital. He was 86 years old. He was born in Sussex Corner, the son of Mr. Percy Clarence Wood and Mrs. Mary (Bennett) Wood. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Geraldine Wood of Fredericton; his son, Percy Francis Wood of Vancouver Island, BC; his sisters, Miss Ruth Wood and Mrs. Lorna Ellison and her husband Mr. Ralph Ellison; sisters-inlaw, Mrs. Dorothy Stewart and Mrs. Jean Haslam-Smith, a number of nieces and nephews including his name sake, Mr. James F. Wood of Ontario, and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Alice Lavina (Haslam) Wood to whom he was devoted, infant daughter, Suzanne Margaret, brothers, Mr. Donald Wood, Mr. Aldran Stewart and Mr. Eric Wood. Jim graduated from Sussex High School in 1935. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1940 with the 4th Canadian M.C. Regiment (8th Princess Louise (NB) Hussars). He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean Area and Continental Europe. Following his discharge he farmed for a time in Smith's Creek, then eventually served as a civilian firefighter with DND at CFB Gagetown in Oromocto. He resided in Fredericton Junction for many years where his former home, Currie House, is now a museum. He was a life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Gladstone (NB#55) Branch. He more recently lived in Oromocto and then Fredericton. He was respected and held in affection by all those who knew him. Funeral services will be held at St. Margaret's Anglican Church, 775 Forest Hill Road, Fredericton, NB on Saturday, June 19th, 2005. The congregation will gather at 10:30 am. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute will precede the Requiem Eucharist and a reception to follow. The committal service will take place at 3:00 pm at Trinity Anglican Cemetery in Sussex Corner, NB. Canon Jon Lownds will officiate at the services. His children have requested no flowers. Donations will be welcome by The Sunbury West Historical Society for the continuing maintenance of Currie House, 110 Currie Lanr, Fredericton Junction, NB, E5L 1X7, or a charity of the donor's choice.
