Mr. Joseph "Joe" Carl Carmichael June 01, 1925 - June 17, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) CARMICHAEL, Joseph Carl - 80, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Friday, June 17, 2005, in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 1, 1925, in Halifax, he was a son of the late William Carmichael and Jean (Stuart) (Carmichael) Nickerson. Joe was a barber in Dartmouth for over 30 years. He was a veteran of the Second World War, where he served with the North Novies and was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Somme Branch No. 31, Dartmouth. In his younger years, Joe enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. Later in life, he enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Hartlen Point Forces Golf Club. Joe will be sadly missed by his devoted wife, Eleanor (Roma) (Covey) Carmichael; sons, Joey (Mary Lou), Alan (Beverly), Larry (Denise); daughter, Darlene (John Thomson); many stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sister, Irene; brothers, Richard "Dick", Luke; stepbrothers, Ken and Tim Nickerson. Joe was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby (Groom); second wife, Ivy (Surman); twin brother, John; sister, Nancy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where Joe's family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday in Blessed Pope John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, Colby Drive, Dartmouth, Father David Poirier, S.A. officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only.
