After a courageous battle with cancer, Rita passed away at home surrounded by her loving and supportive family on Saturday, June 18, 2005. Rita was a cherished wife to John for 32 years; devoted mother to Carla and Amanda and adored by her grandchildren Joshua (12), Kyler (7), Abigail (2), Jakob (1). Rita was predeceased by her parents Agnes and Harold Petitpas; sister, Beverley; brother, Norman. Rita was a long-time employee of DFO. She will be fondly remembered by all who have been touched by her kindness, love and generosity. She had many passions which included sewing, bird watching, animals and nature. Throughout her life, Rita taught us the true meaning of perseverance and indomitable spirit. She never gave up hope, never stopped trying and never lost sight of the most important thing in life, which was her family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, where Rita's family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Monday. Funeral service will be held 1 pm Tuesday, followed by the interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Rita's memory to Canadian Cancer Society, 1-5826 South Street, Halifax NS B3H 1S6 would be appreciated. Special thanks to the palliative care team of Dr. Dupere, Monica Flinn, Susan Perrott, Jill McNeil and all those who helped us along this difficult journey.
