Nicholas KOTYK

NICHOLAS (NICK) KOTYK Nicholas (Nick) Kotyk, 85, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. He was born Feb. 17, 1919 in Arbakka, Man. to the late Demetro and Wasylyna Kotyk. Nick joined the Canadian Army in 1938 and while serving during WWII, he was united in marriage to the former Ann Yaremkiw on Jan. 14, 1940. While overseas, Nick served in Sicily, Italy, and North Africa, and upon his discharge at the end of the war, he returned to Winnipeg. While in Winnipeg, he worked as a health inspector for many years. In 1951, the family moved to Fort Frances, where Nick has since lived. He was predeceased by wife, Ann Kotyk, in February, 1989; and two sisters, Mary Nind and Dora Fairbairn. Nick is survived by one son, Milton Kotyk and wife, Iris, and their son, Matthew, all of Oakbank, Man.; three brothers, Bill Kotyk and wife, Alice, of Winnipeg, Man., Nestor Kotyk and wife, Shirley, of British Columbia, and Ted Kotyk and wife, Norma, of Brainerd, Mn.; and three sisters, Lily Pidlubny of Thunder Bay, Ont., Olga and husband, Francis Rogers, of St. Catharines, Ont., and Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Kotyk of Thunder Bay, Ont. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Fr. Michael Kopchuk officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Prayers were offered at 7:30 p.m. Pallbearers were Dave Bell, Wade Bell, Janet Bell, Nancy Davis (nee Kolynchuk), and members of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29, Walter Sobkowicz and Lawrence Carter. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Amethyst House-Northern Cancer Research Foundation, 290 Munro St., Thunder Bay, Ont., P7A 7T1.
