PETER TAGE THORSON Eric Peter Tage Thorson, 90, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 22, 2005 at Atikokan General Hospital Extended Care. He was born Dec. 3, 1914 in Jamptland, Sweden and immigrated to Canada in 1925. His family homesteaded at South Junction, Man. for eight years before moving to Fort Frances, Ont. Eric worked in the forest and mining industry in Northwestern Ontario, with a three-year stint in the RCAF as an airframe mechanic from 1942-45. He was employed in various supervisory roles with J. A. Mathieu Ltd., Steep Rock Iron Mines, Jim Mathieu Lumber Ltd., and Domtar. Eric retired in 1980 and moved to British Columbia, where he lived for 20 years before returning to Atikokan in 2002. He was well-known in Northwestern Ontario during his working life and will be sorely missed by friends and family. Eric is survived by his sister, Helen Dexter of Bemidji, Mn.; sons, Robert (Sheila) and Donald (Patricia), both of Eva Lake, Ont.; granddaughters, Wendy (Andre) Beaudry and their daughter, Tage, of Thunder Bay, Ont., Tracy Thorson and her son, Adam, of Inuvik, N.W.T., and Tanna Thorson of Niobe Lake, Ont.; grandsons, Bradley and his sons, Perrin and Liam, of Victoria, B.C., Donald of Atikokan Ont., and Robert (Tracy) and their daughters, Chelsea and Baylee, of Eva Lake, Ont. He was predeceased by his father, John Thorson, and mother, Nanna, of Fort Frances, Ont.; sister, Edith Renberg of Fort Frances, Ont.; brother, John Thorson of New Westminster, B.C.; brothers, Herbert Lillegaard of Manchester, N.H. and James Lillegaard of Bageley, Mn., and sister, Audrey Bye, of Minneapolis, Mn.; ex-wife, Anne Willis of Atikokan, Ont.; and wife, Ruth Thorson, of Ladysmith, B.C. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 1 p.m. (EST) at the Royal Canadian Legion in Atikokan. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
