KENNEDY, Doris - Peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital, McLaren Site on Thursday, February 17, 2005. Doris Bain, was the beloved wife of the late John Kennedy and the loving mother of Carolyn Kennedy (Peter Burns) and Valerie Bowness (Rodger). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Robin (Mike), John (Barb), Kara (Greg), Gillian, Leah (Steve), Meghan, Brad (Melanie) and great-grandchildren Annagh, Holly, Samuel, Benjamin and Satchel. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Alcock, Jean Easto, Ruth Foy and Marjorie Dahl and by her brothers Howard Bain and Dr. Harry Bain. She will be dearly remembered by her sisters-in-law Barbara Bain, Jean Bain, Anna Kennedy and Noretta Kennedy. Throughout her life, Doris actively participated in many charitable organizations including the Red Cross and the I.O.D.E. She was a charter and founding member of the Esperanza Club, a local group that supported families in the city. She enjoyed Canadian Club events and tours with her many long-time friends. An avid duplicate bridge player, she could out-play all of her grandchildren at cards and scrabble, and had great fun teaching them how to gamble their pennies. She was a championship golfer who took great pride in playing until she was seventy-five. As a young wife during the war, she operated Kennedy Insurance when her husband was serving in Halifax. She loved her dogs, especially Sheba, reading, entertaining and swimming, but most of all she loved being with her family. She will be missed. Doris' family will receive friends at the Martyn Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, February 20th at 2 p.m. Spring interment at the Terrace Lawn Cemetery. If desired, donations to the North Bay General Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
