Ava-Leigh Ann Grace (née Gillingwater) January 29, 1951 - June 18, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) GRACE (Gillingwater), Ava-Leigh Ann - Loving daughter of the late George Cecil "Gilly" Gillingwater and Lillian Marie (Parker), age 54, died peacefully in Halifax on June 18, 2005, after a life of extraordinary adventure, love and happiness. She was the beloved wife of Michael Joseph Grace, and the loving mother of Owen David (Krista Langille), Alexander Ignatius (Krista Flynn) and Anthony Daniel (Jeff). She has a younger sister, Deena Louise Layton (Dave Kew) of Goderich, Ont. She leaves behind many close and loving relatives, nephews, nieces and friends. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Vincent University. She was a long-time member of the Waegwaltic Club, Halifax, where she spent many summers with her three sons and was a member of St. Pius X Church. Throughout her life she enjoyed working with people and Ava-Leigh was one of the original lifeguards at Centennial Pool when it was opened for the first Canada Games. She owned and operated the Westmount Nursery School for 10 years and for a decade was an ASL-English Language Interpreter. She had many avocations, including swimming, camping, kayaking, reading, birding, gardening, needlework, and love of her beagle, Casey. The family is deeply grateful to the QEII Cardiac Care Staff and to the doctors, nurses and all staff of the Dialysis Clinic (Dixon Centre) for their kindness and compassion. Visitation will take place in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, on Tuesday, June 21, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in St. Pius X Church (corner of Willett Street and Coronation Avenue) on Wednesday, June 22, at 10 a.m., Father Duncan MacMaster officiating, followed by the reception and then burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Division or Halifax Regional Library.
