Mary Ellen Butler February 13, 1954 - June 23, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home * BUTLER……Mary Ellen, age 51, of Halifax, formerly of Windsor, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at the New Halifax Infirmary, QE II, from the result of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 103, at Tantallon. Born on February 13, 1954, in Kentville, Kings County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of Norman and Ina (Milne) Palmer, Welsford, and the late Ross Grimm. Mary was a resident of Windsor for more than 25 years. She was an avid homemaker and fitness enthusiast. Mary began her working career at the Windsor Workshop and taught in the Annapolis Valley school system for many years as an Elementary teacher at Brooklyn and Falmouth schools, and for the past 11 years has been a Guidance Counsellor at Windsor Regional High School, now Avon View High School, Windsor. She was educated at Central Kings High School and received her Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University; Bachelor of Education, Mount Saint Vincent University; and Master of Education, Acadia University. Mary was Atlantic Representative for the Canadian Counselling Association; co-chair of 2003 National Canadian Counselling Association Conference in Halifax; first vice-president and director of the Nova Scotia School Counsellor’s Association; chair of the Annual Conference of the Nova Scotia School Counsellor’s Association; Curricular Committees (Science and Language Arts) and intern in the Career Counselling Internship Program, Dalhousie University (2004-05). She was a member of Western Kings 4H Club; Berwick Baptist Church; Explorers member; and a member of the Windsor United Church choir. She was the loving mother of two daughters. Surviving besides her daughters, Jessica Marie (24) and Alexandra Cathryn (22) of Windsor, and their father, William “Bill” Butler; are her parents, Norman and Ina (Milne) Palmer, Welsford; grandmother, Pauline Milne, New Minas; brother, Paul (Nancy) Grimm, Welsford, and their children, Sally (Mick) O’Neill and Catherine (Dan) Oulton; sister, Lorraine (Neil) MacMullen, Welsford, and their children, Andy (Christy-Ann) Bezanson and Jamie (Gabriel) Sanchez; sister, Ruthe-Anne (John) Greenough, Woodville, and their children, Lindsay, Talia, Jacob, Simon. Besides her father, Ross Grimm; she was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Laurie and Ruth Milne; paternal grandparents, Frank and Matilda Palmer. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, where visitations will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2005. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005, in the Windsor United Church, King Street, with Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Following the service there will be a private family committal, at the Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.
