HENKEL, Dr. Guenther Gustav Passed away suddenly and unexpected at his summer home in Northern Michigan on June 12, 2005. He was born on August 20, 1922 in Kassel, Germany. He studied medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin and Phillips University in Marburg, Germany. During his hospital residency, he decided to emigrate to Canada and after a short stay in Montreal, he and his wife Ingeburg moved to Windsor, Ontario. He completed his internship at Grace Hospital, Windsor. He practiced family medicine before specializing in allergy & immunology. He was active in various positions in four Windsor hospitals. Since his retirement he has spent much time in his summer home in Northern Michigan. Dr. Henkel is survived by his wife Ingeburg, son Dr. Thomas Oliver Henkel, daughter-in-law Isabelle and grandson Yannik Benedikt Henkel; brother Prof. Bernt Henkel and nephew Rainer Henkel; sister-in-law Elvira Horchler, niece Dr. Heike Horchler-Jahn; nephew, Dr. Werner Jahn and son Niklas Jahn, all residing in Germany as well as many cousins in the U.S.A. Dr. Henkel was a long time member of the Canadian Medical Association, the Essex County Medical Society, The Art Gallery of Windsor and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Also he was a member of "Schlaraffia Detroitia". A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1215 Parent Avenue (corner of Giles Blvd. E.) with pastor Jack Dressler officiating.
