OBITUARY REVEREND PETER KEVIN RIDDELL Peter passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Nanaimo Regional Hospital, after a valiant struggle with cancer. As in his life, throughout his illness, he demonstrated extraordinary courage, grace and an indomitable sense of humour. Predeceased by his parents, Horace and Olive, as well as brothers William, Gerald, Owen and Clayton. He is survived by his brothers Basil and his wife Shirley, Grant and his wife Fran, Wayne, his sisters-in-law Kathryn and Margaret, many nephews, nieces and cousins, and his best friend Jack. Peter touched the lives of many and will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, students, parishioners, and patients. Peter was born in Montreal, Quebec, August 11, 1943. He received his Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of Carleton, Ottawa, Ontario, and his Masters of Divinity from the University of Trinity College, Toronto, Ontario. He had a profound impact on many people as a high school teacher, a parish priest, and as a hospital chaplain. His life was the epitome of service and dedication to his family, to the students he taught, to his parishioners and especially as a chaplain during which he lovingly ministered to those in their final journey, or provided comfort to their families. His thoughtfulness, compassion, dedication and his ability to listen and to teach were legendary. We cherish the memories of an outstanding brother and friend who taught us much about how to embrace life and death, how to express love and live fully. He truly brightened and enriched all the lives of those whom he encountered with his loving personality. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Anglican Church of St-Paul, 29 Church Street, Nanaimo, B.C., with the Rev. Brian Evans and the Very Rev. Shane Parker officiating. A reception will follow. Visitation will also be held at the Church of St. Paul from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday June 2, 2005.
