McCOURT, Jamie (Dale Robert) Died Sunday, May 29, 2005. He was 43. The illness he had been fighting for 10 years finally claimed him. Born October 20, 1961, Jamie grew up in Glen Walter and St. Andrews West, Ontario. After completing high school, he studied nursing at St. Lawrence College in Cornwall, graduating one of the top in this class. Jamie worked for many years as a nurse at the Ottawa General Hospital and later as Team Leader, where his patients benefited from his dedication and compassion. He resided in Orleans where he spent time gardening and caring for his dogs. Jamie's home was the site of many celebrations as entertaining family, friends and neighbours was something he loved to do. Without children of his own, Jamie was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews playing an immense role in their lives. Jamie enjoyed travelling, visiting many North American cities as well as Europe, Australia, Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. An avid bridge player, Jamie and partner, Jean Millette took the Silver medal in the Pairs Event at the Sydney 2002 Gay Games VI Bridge Competition. Jamie will be remembered for many things: his courage and strength, his goodness and generous nature, his unwavering positive spirit, his high energy and jubilant manner, his charisma and pizzazz, his honesty and loyalty, his laughter and kindness, his singing and shenanigans, but mostly, Jamie will be remembered for his love and the joy he brought us. Jamie is survived by parents Ren and Millie (Marren), sisters Sharon and Elizabeth and brother Howard and sister-in-law Lise, nieces Lee and Krysten, and nephews Stephen, Terry and Miles. He is predeceased by his brother Steven. A Memorial will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2005 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lookout Bar at 41 York Street, in the Byward Market.
