Celia TURCOTTE

TURCOTTE, Sister Celia (Sister Mary Adrian) A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario died at the Scarborough General Hospital, Toronto, Ontario on the 8th day of June, 2005 in the 46th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn her loss are the members of her religious community, her brothers Roy (Joyce), Jim (Karen), her nephew Bob, and her nieces Renee, and Brooke, as well as many friends. Predeceased by her parents, Edgar Joseph Turcotte and Cecile Noel. Sister Celia was born on July 19, 1941, in Hull, Quebec. She entered the Grey Sisters' Community on September 15, 1959. In 1961 she began her ministry in education, serving in various areas including, the convent of Mary Immaculate, Pembroke, Immaculata High School, Ottawa, and Yamasa, in the Dominican Republic. Upon returning from the Dominican Republic she continued her High School teaching at Bishop Smith High School in Pembroke. A gifted and competent teacher, Sister Celia ministered in the education system for period of twenty-six years. During those years she continued to study, earning a number of degrees, including Masters of Science and of Education. In 1988, Sister Celia was called to a new assignment, as General Treasurer and Secretary, of the Grey Sisters Congregation, a position she held for the next fifteen years. In 2003, Sister Celia enjoyed a well deserved Sabbatical, after which she continued to serve as Financial Consultant for several Religious Congregations, until failing health necessitated retirement from active ministry in 2004. Resting at the Grey Sisters' Motherhouse, 700 Mackay Street in Pembroke, Ontario on Monday, June 13 from 3 p.m. followed by Special Vespers in the Chapel at 7 p.m. Liturgy of the Resurrection in the Motherhouse Chapel on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Members of the C.W.L. Cathedral Parish will meet for prayer at the Motherhouse on Monday, June 13th at 4 p.m. Interment at St. Columba's Cemetery, Pembroke, Ontario. Arrangements in the care of Neville's Funeral Home.
