Marvin Frank Henker January 06, 1915 - June 27, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Leyden's Funeral Home (Claresholm) Marvin Henker passed away in Calgary on June 27, 2005 when his body had grown tired and weak after 90 years of service. He was born January 6, 1915 in Granum and graduated from Olds College in 1932. Marvin married Winnifred (Thompson) in Claresholm on January 22, 1938 where they farmed and ranched until 1949. Marvin was a lifetime member of the Canadian Hereford Association. The family moved to Summerland B.C. where Marvin owned an orchard and sawmill until 1956. They then moved back to Claresholm to farm another four years, followed by a move to Creston, BC in 1960 where Marvin had a dump truck business. During his years, Marvin was a Cub Scout leader and active in the Masonic Lodge. While at Creston, Marvin’s community involvement included 10 years as a Creston Area C Regional District Representative and a member of the Recreational Commission. Marvin played the banjo and trumpet in the Granum area and when he attended the Olds College, both Marvin and Winnifred were members of the dance band. Their lifelong love of music and dancing was passed on to their children. Marvin and Winnifred were active lifetime members of the United Church. Marvin was known as a man of quiet strength and integrity. He was hard working, generous and will be remembered for his stories of the early Alberta homesteaders. Marvin is survived by daughter Gail Copithorne (Calgary), son Donald (Creston), son Brian (Spruce Grove) and his wife Marilyn, sister Luella Cox (Calgary), six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and was predeceased by his brother Stanley and sister Mae (Weber). A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at Leyden’s Funeral Home 4079 – 1 Street West, Claresholm, Phone: 403.625.3212 on Saturday July 2 at 2PM. Graveside service will follow at the Granum Cemetery. Donations to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated.
