Kenneth William JOHNS

Kenneth William Johns SAINT JOHN, NB - Kenneth William Johns of Saint John, NB, passed away early on Sunday, July 10, 2005 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital. Ken was the son of Elizabeth and Harry Johns of England. Ken served as an Observer in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy during World War II. Joy and Ken met in Moncton during his flight training and were married in Montreal, after Ken emigrated to Canada. Ken retired from the Bank of Montreal in Saint John after a career in banking that spanned Barbados, Montréal, Ottawa, Dartmouth, St. John's and Halifax. Ken was a long time member of the United Services Institute for NB and the Naval Officers Association of NS, where he served as President for two years. After his retirement in 1983, Ken obtained a degree in Fine Arts from Mount Allison University in Sackville that allowed him to pursue his talent and love of art. Ken's artwork is in many galleries and private collections throughout Atlantic Canada. His work is in the Province of NB Art Bank and he has had solo exhibitions in the NB Museum, Saint John Art Gallery, UNB Saint John and Great Britain. He is survived by his wife, Joy, of 55 years; two children, Mark (Barb) Johns of Ajax, ON, and Linda (Joe) Mann of Halifax; five grandchildren, Stephanie Johns of Halifax, Michael Johns of Toronto, and Sean, Ryan and Robin Mann of Halifax; brother, Charles Johns, resides in Worthing, England; as does niece, Jennifer (Brian) Quaife; nephew, Christopher (Susan) Johns, resides in Bedfordshire, England, nephew Richard Johns in Croydon, England; and niece Kasia (James) Kilvington in Oxford, England. At Ken's request there will be no public funeral or visitation. He wished that his friends and relatives to remember him privately. Following cremation, his remains will be buried with his wife's parents in the family plot at Fairhaven Memorial Gardens in Moncton on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 with prayers at 2:30 pm., followed by a gathering at the Fair Haven Reception Centre to celebrate Ken's life. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB between 2:00 and 2:30 pm. Donations in Ken's memory may be made to the Cherry Brook Zoo or the Animal Rescue League.
