BLAKE, ARTHUR - Arthur Benedict Blake, 82, died peacefully at home in Naples, Florida on January 27, 2005. Mr. Blake was born in Saint John, on Seeley Street February 17, 1922. A son of Azel Blake and Elma Benedict Blake, he grew up in Saint John. He graduated Saint John High School in 1939, Phillips Academy in Andover Mass. in 1940, and Yale in 1944. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. Mr. Blake married Janet Stephenson of Saint John in 1948. A chemical engineer, he worked at Standard Oil of Indiana and Staley Manufacturing Company in Illinois. In 1976 he married Jean Stengel of Decatur Illinois and later retired to Hot Springs, Arkansas, and then to Naples, Florida. Mr. Blake is survived by his sister Miriam Blake Johnston and David Johnston of Westfield, NB, her children Elma Johnston McKay and Frank Johnston and their families of the Saint John area, and Anna Johnston Healy and her family, of Halifax, NS. Also surviving is his daughter, Margaret Blake Greider and Christopher Greider of Naples, Florida, and their daughters, Janet, Sally (Sarah), and Helen Greider. Other survivors include stepdaughter Pam Board and family of Richmond, Virginia, and stepson James Stengel and family of New York City. Mr. Blake loved New Brunswick throughout his life and was an avid skier, sailor, and tennis player for many years. Interment will occur Friday, July 15 at 11AM at Fernhill Cemetery in Saint John. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. [Telegraph-Journal]
