Robert Bergner June 05, 1934 - July 13, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home He was predeceased by his “sweetie” Eilleen Eliason and by his father Kurt in March of 2005. His memory will be cherished by his beloved mother, Winnie: brothers, Harvey (Irene) and Warren: sisters Gloria (Mark Fenny) and Glenda (Colin MacDonald). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Karen Juce, Heather Bergner, Cheryl Bergner, Keith Bergner, Tammy Michaud, Tracy Hendershot, Carolyn and Kathryn Fenny, Scott, Cameron and Christian MacDonald along with close friends Paul Zeglinski, Danny Margolis and favourite auntie Edith Baker. Ed was born on June 5, 1934 and raised in the St. John’s district of Winnipeg, attending Luxton School and St. John’s Tech. In his early years he excelled at speed skating, winning a Manitoba Championship as well as playing baseball, soccer, lacrosse and hockey at an elite level. Upon graduating from St. John’s, Ed attended the University of Manitoba, where early on he determined that University life wasn’t for him. Instead he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and he became a highly successful entrepreneur, owning and operating the Imperial Oil service station at the corner of Talbot and Watt. Ed was a student throughout his life and a combination of business savvy and investment skills enabled him to retire early. Needing a new challenge, he took up golf. Like his other athletic endeavors he excelled and quickly became a low handicapper and twice a member of the “Hole in One Club”. Ed spent his summers at the St. Boniface Golf Course and with Warren at the Winnipeg Beach cottage, where he “conned” his buddy John Strong into all sorts of “renovations”. A good part of his winters he spent in San Antonio, Texas with his faithful sidekick Warren as his caddie and friends Maggie Valdez and Ron Farnfield. Respecting Ed’s wishes, no service will be held. Family and friends wishing to gather to remember a dear friend are invited to Sterling House at 909 Wilkes Ave. on Monday, July 18th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
