KEMPNER, Alexandra Mary (Bodurka), Died peacefully at home on July 12, 2005, in her 69th year of a full and productive life. Survived by her husband of 35 years, Andrew, sisters Jennie (Steve) Jurus of Fonthill, Ontario, Cecilia (John, deceased) Paw lik of St. Catharines and brother Stanley Bodurka of Hampton, Ontario, and many nieces and nephews in whom she took great pride. Predeceased by parents John and Helen Bodurka of St. Catharines. Alex graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing (Hami lton) in 1958 and embarked on a 30 year career which included bedside and critical care at Hotel Dieu and St. Catharines General Hospitals where she assumed a supervisory role, and a distinguished tenure as assistant director of nurses at St. John's Hospital Santa Monica, California where she lived from 1962 to 1972. From 1988 to 1990 she worked as a staffer and instructor for the Canadian Red Cross teaching home and patient care skills at the Mack Centre and Niagara College. In 1990 she began h er third career as a realtor, partnering with husband Andrew at A. Kempner Realty Ltd. from their home in the north end of St. Catharines where she remained active in the business until shortly before her death. Perhaps Alex's greatest contribution t o the community was her role as mentor to many young adults who sought her counsel, compassion, nonjudgmental advice and friendship over many years and their successful and busy lives have been a source of great satisfaction to Alex and Andrew. Alex was a loyal friend to many, a woman of profound faith, a loving and devoted wife, sister, and aunt and a triumphant survivor of cancer for 31 years prior to her final illness. Her life will be celebrated at PATRICK J. DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL (39 Court S treet, St. Catharines) with viewing and reminiscences at 2-4 & 6:30-9 p.m. Friday, July 15th with vigil prayers from 8 to 8:30 p.m. A high Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Garnet St., Saturday, July 16th at 10 a.m. followed b y interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hospital of choice, Wellspring Niagara or Hospice Niagara. Special thanks to Dr. Sandra Hartman for her tireless, brilliant and sensitive care during Alex 's final illness, Dr. Wayne Gruber for his compassionate cooperation and concern and Dr. Bruce Rosenberg, Alex's family physician for more than 25 years. - 7/14/2005 - ID6633254
