Russell D. Thornton Russell D. Thornton, 83, of Moncton surrounded by his family passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, July 17, 2005 after a courageous battle with Cancer. Born in St. Stephen, Russell was the son of the late William and Harriet (Russell) Thornton. Russell was retired from NB Power Commission. He was a long time member of Mountain View United Church, member of Fidelity Chapter - 36 OES Riverview, Coverdale Lodge - 52 F&AM Riverview, Luxor Shrine Temple Saint John and the Moncton Shrine Club. He enjoyed all different sports however first and foremost was his support and love for the Moncton Wildcats. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, served overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Signal Corp. in Italy and Northwestern Europe for over five years. Russell will be sadly missed by his daughters, Ruth Thornton, Moncton, Phyllis Christie (Tom), Calgary, AB; son, Peter (Cindy), Calgary, AB; grandsons, Craig and Keith; sisters, Francis, Shirley and Joan; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Betty (McAllister)(1993); brother, William; sister, Bernice. No visitation by request. Memorial Service at Mountain View United Church, MacBeth Ave. Wednesday, July 20, 2005, 4:30pm; Rev. Paul Cumming officiating. Reception in the church hall following the service. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery. In Russell's memory donations to Friend's of The Moncton Hospital (Driscoll Extra Murial Unit) or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
