Cecil "Tommy" Roy Thomas May 22, 1917 - July 19, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) THOMAS, Cecil Roy "Tommy" - 88, Halifax, died July 19, 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Oshawa, Ont., he was a son of the late Roy and Euphemia (Pennock) Thomas. Tommy served his country in the Royal Canadian Navy for 27 years and was a veteran of the Second World War. He worked for the City of Halifax for many years until his retirement in 1982. Born on a farm, he had a lifelong love of gardening, and had many vegetable and flower gardens. He loved playing poker with his poker buddies for 30 years. He was a practical joker with a great sense of humour. He enjoyed golf and was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He was a member of Bethany United Church in earlier years. He, along with his wife, took great pride in their home, having developed it into the beautiful landscape it is today. He was well-traveled, having made many trips throughout Canada and the United States, his favourite destination being Las Vegas. Tommy enjoyed remarkable good health until his recent illness. He is survived by his son, Roy Thomas (Elaine Meredith), Halifax; brother, Reid (Karen Campbell), Pickering, Ont. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Helen E. (Cole) Thomas; brothers, Bruce, Keith, Reesor; sister, Aileen. Visitation will be held Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday in Bethany United Church, Rev. Ihasz officiating. Burial to follow in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville.
