REDHEAD, Dr. Paul A. National Research Council - Researcher Emeritus Peacefully on Saturday, July 9th, at age 81 after a long battle with heart disease. Beloved husband of Doris Redhead (nee Packman) and father of Janet (Ed Randall) and Pat (Jim Birchard). Proud grandfather of Jefferey, Bradley, Phillip and Timothy. He will be greatly missed by all. Born May 25, 1924 in Brighton, England, he earned his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from Cambridge University in the UK. After service in the British Admiralty in WWII he immigrated to Canada in 1947 where he began a lengthy career in Physics at NRC including Group Director Physics / Chemical Science Laboratories and as Director Division of Physics. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers, the Royal Society of Canada, American Physical Society, American Vacuum Society. He received the Medard W. Welch Award (American Vacuum Society), the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Award and the Medal for Achievement in Physics (Canadian Association of Physicists). Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road at the Aviation Parkway on Tuesday, July 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at 3 p.m. Donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated.
