George Robertson May 13, 1935 - July 30, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home In the early hours of Friday, July 30, Dad decided it was time to join his beloved wife Carole. During various times over the past five years, Dad had health issues which required him to be strong and battle. Always a fighter – he faced all of these challenges, not only with determination, but an unforgettable sense of humour and great poise. Unfortunately, this time Stroke got the best of him, and his spirit was released… He leaves behind a long list of people he has met over the years who call him friend. Within that long list of friends – also include a family who will never forget the great values of life he taught and nurtured. These include son Dale and girlfriend Christine, daughter Dianna and husband John, grandchildren Shawn, Michelle and Amara. George is survived by sisters Eleanor, Joyce and June, brother David, and many nieces and nephews – each and every one of them very dear to his heart. Dad was born May 13, 1935 and was raised on the family farm in Marquette, MB. In the fall of 1966, he met his future wife and soul mate Carole Houston at the UNF Hall on Main Street in Winnipeg. They were married on August 26, 1967. For the better part of nearly 4 decades, George and Carole and the family lived in the South end of Winnipeg while George supported the family for 32 years as an employee at Inland Cement. Many summers were spent at Falcon Lake, and trips were taken to the coast to visit family along the way. Incredible sports fans, especially of the Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Blue Jays, Mom and Dad were a perfect match! Mom passed away in 1999, Dad lost his best friend in November of that year and it’s comforting to know he is with her again. A very warm and heartfelt thank you go out to the wonderful nursing teams (especially Connie and Claudia most recently) who took great care of Dad as if he was their very own family. Dad really enjoyed teasing and joking with you, and it makes us smile to know he did that until his last moments. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Manitoba, 6-200 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5 at 3:00 p.m. with viewing held one half hour prior to the service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment and reception will follow.
