McCLOSKEY, TOM RONALD - Tom McCloskey, a well-known Fredericton businessman, died suddenly and unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital September 12, 2005. Born February 5, 1948, he was the son of the late Vincent and Margaret (Hurley) McCloskey. He owned and operated TRM Auto Consultants Inc. and was involved in car and truck sales for over 30 years. An avid outdoorsman, Tom was never happier than behind the wheel of a snowmobile or four-wheeler. Winter lured him to the ski hills, while summer found him boating, fishing, hiking and golfing. Camping held a special appeal year round. On crisp fall days he was known to share the intricacies of partridge hunting with those less gifted. Tom was an active member of the Fredericton City Club and the Kingswood Fitness Centre. He was involved with many charitable organizations, but none was closer to his heart than the golf tournament for the Children's Wish Foundation. Of all his gifts, nothing surpassed his ability to tell a great story, laced with the quick wit that belonged only to Tom. His story-telling legacy will live on in the minds and hearts of those closest to him. A devoted family man, Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Verna (Gallant); sons Jarrett and Jason of Fredericton; sister Eleanor McCloskey of Fredericton; special grandson Tyler Charlton; five nephews; two nieces. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Bill McCloskey and sister Ann (McCloskey) Ryan. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at York Funeral Home on Friday, September 16 at 4 pm with Rev. Monte Peters officiating. Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm Thursday, September 15. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Children's Wish Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
