Mary Nifort May 06, 1920 - September 10, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) NIFORT, Mary - 85, Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 10, 2005, after a long struggle with dementia. Born May 6, 1920, in Grates Cove, NL, she was the eldest daughter of the late Joshua and Nellie (Harnum) Stansford. Mary was a member of Stairs Memorial United Church for many years, Royal Canadian Legion, Somme Branch No. 31, where she had acted as Sergeant at Arms for the Ladies Auxiliary and the Newfoundland Club where she enjoyed playing darts and dancing. She also enjoyed gardening, bowling and spending time with her family. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Roseville "Rosie"; daughter, Elizabeth Nifort, Cole Harbour; son, Leslie (Sheila), Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Stephanie and Nicholas; several nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by son, Terry; sisters, Margaret and Daisy in infancy, Melvie Vaters; brothers, Tommy, Leslie and Eldred Stansford. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Stairs Memorial United Church, 44 Hester St., Dartmouth, Rev. Laird Stirling officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. Family flowers only.
