BYERS, DOUGLAS NORMAN - At the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer, Doug went to be with his Lord on August 13, 2005. Born in Saint John in 1937, Doug was the son of the Late Roy and Violet (Fawcett) Byers and was a long time active member of St. John's (Stone) Church and St. Paul's Anglican Church Oak Point. Doug also ran Byers Upholstering in Saint John for many years. He is the dear husband of J. Anne (nee Richards) and is also survived by his stepsons Edward Bacon of Calgary, Alberta, and Charles Bacon of Central Greenwich, NB. Doug will be missed by his sisters Doris Price of Saint John, and Eleanor Foster (Rudi) of Halifax, NS, by his brother Roy Byers of Calgary, Alberta, and by many nieces and nephews. Doug also leaves behind his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gordon and Elizabeth Richards, and brothers-in-law William Richards (Barbara), Charles Richards (Susan), and sister-in-law Evelyn Richards (Gerald), all of Fredericton, NB. Doug was predeceased by his brother Ronald Byers and by his sister Barbara McLennan. Friends may call at the St. John's (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton Street, Saint John on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated by Rev. David Edwards, Venerable Vicars Hodge, and Rev. Paul Ranson at St. John's (Stone) Church on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at 1 o'clock. Following the reception at the church, burial will take place in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery Oak Point. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Doug, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Anglican Parish of the Nerepis and St. John. [Telegraph-Journal]
