Margaret Poeckens SURREY, BC - Margaret (Peggy) nee Gaudet Poeckens passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2005. Peggy was a wife for 45 years to Dennis Poeckens; mother to Bob (Darcy) Poeckens of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born January 29, 1940 in Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by infant son, Brian (1962); parents, Art (1962) and Cecilia (1991) Gaudet; and brother, Dale Gaudet (2005). Survived by brother, John (Doris) Gaudet, Swift Current, Saskatchewan; sister, Madeleine (Nonnie) Gaudet, Fredericton, New Brunswick; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and best friends, Bill and Elaine Edgar. Peggy was an eight year esophageal cancer survivor, thanks to Dr. Ken Evens, VGH staff, and the loving support of family and friends such as Bill and Elaine Edgar. She became a contact person for others battling the same disease after she recovered from her first fight with cancer. She also helped future patients by portraying a patient in the VGH Esophagi information video. She was a twenty-five year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #8, White Rock and one of the original employees of Sky Train in the Department of Materials Management. Funeral Mass will be at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2250 150th St. Surrey, BC on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Interment of cremated remains will take place in Victory Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
