Captain Dennis Patrick Farina June 05, 1915 - August 07, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Richmond Funeral Home Born June 5, 1915, in Vancouver, B.C., passed away peacefully in the company of his family on August 7, 2005, in Richmond General Hospital, age 90. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Hazel in 2001; sister Patricia; and brother John. Dennis is survived by his children Rick (Maria) Farina, Jim (Nancy) Farina, April (Cadmar) Larson; 12 grandchildren; brother Charles; and many close and longtime friends such as Kate and Murdo. Dennis was a very kind and friendly man who found great joy in helping others throughout his life and career. His lengthy sea-going career began as a young boy working for 14 years with his dad Patrick aboard B.C. coastal vessels at the Union Steamship Company. Then Dennis progressed through the officer ranks whle working on foreign going deep-sea ships, served as an officer in the Canadian Merchant Marine Unit 284 during World War II, proudly dedicated 30 years as Captain of the Vancouver Fire Boat, worked on numerous vessels that plyed the B.C. Coast including being a Director of the Harbour Ferries and then Dennis further enjoyed 20 years as Captain of the Malibu Princess. Also, Dennis has been a long standing member of: Masonic Empire Lodge #85, the Canadian Merchant Service Guild and Company of Master Mariners of Canada. Dennis was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him but will live on in our hearts. Memorial Service will be held at St. Anne's Anglican Church, 4071 Francis, Richmond, at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 17, 2005. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vancouver Children's Hospital would be deeply appreciated.
