Jean MacDonald Pestrick (née Douglas) June 11, 1925 - August 15, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with deep sadness the passing of Jean MacDonald Pestrick at the St. Boniface Hospital on August 15 is announced. Jean one of nine brothers and sisters was born to the late Patrick and Maria Douglas at Kenton MB on June 11, 1925. Shortly after the family moved to Hilton, MB where Jean received her education. At the age of about 16 she obtained employment in Winnipeg and it was in Winnipeg where she met her future husband, John Pestrick. They were married at St. Stephens Broadway United Church in Winnipeg in 1944. In 1947 Jean and her husband moved to Oak River, MB where they with Jean’s parents operated a restaurant. In 1959 after John had obtained employment as a bus driver with Winnipeg Transit they moved to Winnipeg. After John retired in 1984, he and Jean enjoyed traveling to many countries including Jamaica, Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii. While in Oak River Jean was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and in Winnipeg she was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion receiving her 25 year pin just recently. Jean’s beloved husband, John preceded her in death in 2003. She was also predeceased by her parents, brothers William and Robert, sister Marion, niece Barbara Crawford, brothers-in-law Edward Rorabeck and Fred Pestrak, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jim and Mary Selluski, Mike and Olga Scoby, Henry and Katie Singbeil, Eric and Pauline Carlson, Peter and Elizabeth Pestrick, Michael and Marlene Pestrak, Sophia Pestrak, Ruby Pestrak and Iona Crawford. Left to cherish Jean’s memory are her brothers Patrick of Oak River, MB and John of Winnipeg, sisters Elizabeth Rorabeck and Dorothea Large both of Winnipeg, and Margaret Smith of Vancouver, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jim and Margaret Pestrak, Art and Chris Singbeil, Stanley Pestrak, Evelyn Pestrak and Sheila Douglas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean will always be remembered for her friendly smile and her sincere loyal friendship. At Jean’s request a funeral service with viewing prior to the service to which friends are invited will take place on Friday, August 19, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. By request, no flowers please. If so desired, friends may donate to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to the Shriners Khartum Temple, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9.
