Alice Rait (née MacDougall) September 06, 1915 - August 15, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Desjardins Funeral Chapel ALICE G. RAIT (Nee MacDOUGALL) Alice passed away peacefully, at home, on August 15, 2005, at the age of 89 years. She is survived by her nephews, Brendan MacDougall, Grant (Eleanor) MacDougall, Neil (Nancy) MacDougall, and niece Sherrill (David) Brown. She also leaves her step-grandchildren, Margaret, Christopher and Robert McKenty. She was predeceased by her husband William McGillivray Rait, former president of Pioneer Grain in 1972. Alice was born in Winnipeg on September 06, 1915. She had a life-long interest in sports, including golf and archery. After marrying William, she traveled extensively. She particularly enjoyed her winter vacations in La Jolla, California. Alice was an attender of the United Church, including Norwood and St. Andrew’s River Heights. She volunteered for many years with the St. Agnes guild at Winnipeg Children’s Hospital. She was very interested in community philanthropy, most recently with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Over the past several years Alice developed a strong friendship with Elaine Laroche, who helped her immeasurably. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s River Heights United Church, 255 Oak Street, on Tuesday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 (tel. no. 949-2000).
