Doreen HOGAN

HOGAN DESROCHERS, Doreen À Montréal, le 4 août 2005, à l'âge de 78 ans, est paisiblement décédée à son domicile, Doreen Hogan, terminant ainsi sa lutte contre le cancer. Elle était entourée de ses enfants aimés et aimants Louise (Benoit, petit-enfants Gabriel et Vicki), Jean, Jacques, Marc, et Michel (Angela). Charitable et fidèle, humble et par conséquent discrètement joyeuse, Doreen fit bénéficier sa famille et ses amis de son abondante imagination créative exercée dans de nombreux domaines. Native d'Emo en Ontario, Doreen était la plus jeune d'une famille de 12 enfants. Elle rejoint sa mère Senja Ristanen, qui tenait une place spéciale au fond de son coeur. Elle laisse dans le deuil son frère Art (Verna) et ses soeurs Senja, Monica, Josie, et Pat (Mello) et leurs familles ainsi que celles de ses frères et soeurs qui l'ont précédée dans la mort. Elle était l'épouse de feu Jean Desrochers et laisse aussi dans le deuil soeur Jeanne d'Arc c.s.c., Lucien et sa famille, et la famille de feu Aline. Comme ultime geste de générosité, elle fit don de son corps pour aider la science; une cérémonie commémorative aura lieu à une date ultérieure. Afin de poursuivre dans cet esprit, des dons à une oeuvre de charité seraient appréciés. Doreen demanda simplement que des messes soient célébrées en sa mémoire. The sadness of our loss is tempered by the knowledge her suffering has ended. Her impish smile shone through to brighten many a dark day in her struggle with cancer. Doreen peacefully left home surrounded by all her beloved children. She leaves behind Louise (Benoit and children Gabriel and Vicki), John, Jacques, Marc, and Michel (Angela). All her children share the beauty of her blue eyes, as first observed by her sister Monica at Doreen's birth, as well as her quiet dedication to those around. Born in Emo, Ontario, Doreen was the youngest of twelve. It is no secret she always had a special place in her heart for her dear mother Senja Ristanen, who came to Canada from Finland. Doreen studied in several places, among them The Pines in Chatham, Ontario. Upon growing up, she moved about, spending some years in Thunder Bay and then Toronto. She finally settled in Montreal, founding her family with Jean Desrochers (who predeceased her). Doreen much enjoyed the creativity with which she was blessed. Her artistry found its way to all corners of the family home and beyond, as her children fondly remember. Of the Hogan clan, Doreen leaves behind her brother Art (Verna) and sisters Senja, Monica, Josie, and Pat (Mello), all their children, and many more from her siblings who predeceased her. She also leaves behind Soeur Jeanne d'Arc Desrochers c.s.c., and the families of Lucien and his late sister Aline. Accompanying her physically this last journey were her devoted children, some having taken leave from work. The Palliative care unit of St. Mary's Hospital in Montreal provided all forms of support under the guidance of Dr. Josee Caron. Pat Guy improved spirits of all during her many visits to Doreen in hospital. Upon Doreen's return home, Liliane Mondoux contributed early mornings, and more, when most of this late-rising family were asleep. Finally, prayers from far and wide sustained Doreen throughout. As a final gesture of giving, Doreen donated her body to science. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to charity would be welcome, to carry on her gift of generosity. Doreen simply requested masses be said in her memory. Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 8/20/2005
