Albert St. Hilaire October 31, 1924 - August 24, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Glen Lawn Funeral Home (Winnipeg) With great love and wonderful memories the family of Albert St. Hilaire announces his peaceful passing on August 24, 2005 at Victoria General Hospital. He was predeceased by his father Adelard in 1984, mother Dorothee (Hebert) in 1992, sister Irene in 1976, and brother Edmond in 2003. Albert will be sadly missed by his wife Laurette, children Gil (Debbie), Raymond (Linda), Claudette, Robert (Doris), Lionel (Gudrun), Leon (Carolyn) and Noel (friend Christine); grandchildren Jason (Sheryl), Nicole, Michelle, Britnie, Mallory, Roxanne, Jeremie, Stephane, Justin, Kaetyn, Melissa; and great grandchildren Ryan and Megan. He is further survived by brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and countless friends. Albert was born October 31, 1924 in St. Pierre, Manitoba. On November 19, 1946, he married Laurette Dupuis in St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba. Albert’s passion was farming, his love was his family and yet he still felt he had to serve the public. For 35 years, he served on numerous committees, boards, and councils. These included Director of Caisse Populaire, Trustee and later president of school board, director St Jean Co-op, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Farmers Union, Chamber of Commerce, Municipal Councilor, Reeve of Montcalm, and President of Manitoba Disaster Assistance Board. Those and many other committees benefited from Albert’s endless and tireless devotion. Once he retired, he was not satisfied to sit idle. As promised to Laurette, those years were filled by traveling to many corners of the world. Then in November 2002, Albert asked his cousin to help him prepare his memoirs and consequently the book “From the Farm to Public Life” was born. He will truly be missed by all. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 26, at St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church, 1007 St. Mary’s Road. Mass of Christian Burial will also be held at the church at 10:00 a.m. Service will terminate at the church. “He’ll always be remembered As a man, both strong & good, Who gave his best for others And who did the best he could.
