Judith Hamel (1964-2005) l'Acadie Nouvelle - 25 août 2005 - Au Moncton City Hospital, le dimanche 21 août 2005, est décédée Judith Hamel, domiciliée à Riverside-Albert. Elle était l’épouse de Randy Gregory et la mère de deux filles: Améthyste, âgée de 11 ans, et Emily Opal, âgée de 3 ans et demi. Elle laisse également dans le deuil son père, Grégoire Hamel, et sa mère, Allixe Frappier de Granby, Qc; ses frères: Rémi Hamel de Montréal, Simon Hamel (Sylvie Malo) de Cobourg, Ont., Sylvain Hamel (Joanne Levesque) de Granby, Qc et Bruno Hamel d’Ottawa, ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, oncles, tantes, cousins, cousines et de nombreux amis. Judith Hamel a réalisé des études de maîtrise en langue et littérature françaises à l’Université de Moncton. Elle était bien connue et appréciée du milieu des arts et de la culture en Acadie, où elle a beaucoup oeuvré. Nommée directrice de Film Zone en 1991, elle a été l’organisatrice du Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie durant près de dix ans; en 1996, elle a cofondé la maison d’édition Bouton d’or Acadie et, en mars dernier, elle acceptait la direction du Centre culturel Aberdeen de Moncton. Amoureuse de la nature et soucieuse de la préservation de ses richesses, elle a été candidate du Parti Vert dans la circonscription de Moncton-Dieppe-Riverview, lors des élections fédérales de juin 2004. Durant ces dernières décennies, Judith Hamel a su jumeler la création littéraire et l’activité artistique. En plus de signer plusieurs textes de critique littéraire, elle a publié deux recueils de poésie et dix livres pour la jeunesse. Elle a mis sur pied ou coordonné des événements littéraires et artistiques, a fait des lectures publiques de ses oeuvres, donné des conférences et plusieurs ateliers dans les écoles. En 2004, elle a été finaliste au Prix littéraire Antonine-Maillet–Acadie-Vie et, en 2003, elle recevait le Prix de la lieutenante-gouverneure pour l’alphabétisation de la petite enfance. Un service religieux à la mémoire de Judith Hamel aura lieu en la chapelle de l’Université de Moncton, le samedi 27 août, à 11h, et une rencontre avec la famille et les amis suivra la cérémonie.Judith Hamel 1964 - 2005 RIVERSIDE-ALBERT, NB - Judith Hamel, a resident of Riverside-Albert, passed away at The Moncton City Hospital, on Sunday, August 21, 2005. She was married to Randy Gregory and mother of two daughters, Améthyste, 11 years old and Emily Opal, 3 and a half years. She is also survived by her father, Grégoire Hamel and her mother, Allixe Frappier of Granby, Québec; her brothers, Rémi Hamel of Montréal, Simon Hamel and his wife Sylvie Malo of Cobourg, Ontario, Sylvain Hamel and his wife Joanne Levesque of Granby, Québec and Bruno Hamel of Ottawa; as well as several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves behind a large number of friends and great memories. Judith Hamel pursued her graduate studies in French language and literature at l'Université de Moncton. She was widely known and much appreciated by the Acadian artistic and cultural community, where she was very actively involved. The Executive Director of Film Zone from 1991, she organized the International Festival of Francophone Cinema in Acadie for nearly ten years. In 1996 she was a co-founder of the publishing firm Bouton d'or Acadie, and last March, she became the Executive Director of the Aberdeen Cultural Centre, in Moncton. A nature lover and concerned with the preservation of its gifts, she was a candidate for the Green Party in the Moncton-Dieppe-Riverview riding, in the June 2004 federal election Over the past decades, Judith Hamel pursued a double career as a writer and as a cultural worker. In addition to several publications in the field of literary criticism, she wrote and published two collections of poetry and ten works of children's literature. She was the organizer and/or co-ordinator of several major artistic and literary events, gave public readings of her work, was a public speaker, and presented many workshops in schools. In 2003 she received the Lieutenant-Governor's Prize for early childhood literacy and in 2004, she was short-listed for the literary award Prix littéraire Antonine-Maillet-AcadieVie. A religious service will be celebrated in Judith Hamel's memory at the NotreDame d'Acadie Chapel on the university campus, on Saturday August 27, 2005 at 11 a.m., to be followed by a gathering of family and friends.
