GRANT, William James "Bill" (Major-General, Retired) Passed away peacefully following a stroke, with his family at his side on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the age of 87. Bill will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, Marjory; his two daughters Cathy and Barbara (Stacey); and by his four beloved grandchildren; Grant, Christopher (Lyne), Kristi and Heather (Todd). Uncle Bill will also be sadly missed by his cherished nieces and nephews and their families. Bill grew up in Montreal and graduated from McGill with a degree in Mining Engineering. He joined the RCAF during WWII and went on to enjoy a distinguished career in the Canadian military. Bill retired as a Major General and continued his professional life for another 10 years with Pratt & Whitney. Bill was a longtime member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club and a founding member of the Chimo Group. He was the senior serving elder at St. David & St. Martin Presyterian Church to which he dedicated much of his life. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt Ave.), Ottawa on Sunday, August 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A service to remember the life of Bill Grant will take place Monday, August 22 at 11:00 am at St. David & St. Martin Presbyterian Church, 444 St. Laurent Blvd., Ottawa. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to St. David & St. Martin Memorial Fund or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff on A5 at the Ottawa Hospital-Civic Campus, and to the Palliative Team at Elisabeth Bruyere for their loving care.
