Rev. Garland C. Brooks CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI - The death occurred at the PEI Atlantic Baptist Home in Charlottetown on September 1, 2005 of the Rev. Garland Chapman Brooks BA, MA, M Div., Minister Emeritus of Park Royal United Church, Charlottetown. Born in Springfield West, PEI in 1909, he was the son of the late W.E. Brooks and Catherine (Adams) Brooks. A graduate of Prince of Wales College, Mount Allison University, and Emmanuel and Victoria Colleges of the University of Toronto, Rev. Brooks was ordained as a Minister in the United Church of Canada in 1937. He held pastoral charges in Edam, SK, Bayfield, NB, River Hebert, NS, Windsor, NS, and Moncton, NB, before returning to PEI following his retirement in 1974. He leaves his wife of 19 years, Martha (Johnston) Brooks; his sons, Dr. Gary Brooks and Dr. Randall Brooks; daughter-in-law, Diane; sister, Una Glennie; step-daughters, Gail Wellner, Judy Smith, Sandra MacKay and Kathryn Siggins; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Blanche (Phillips); daughter, Sheila; and sisters, Florence MacArthur and Joy Bridges. The remains are resting at the Belvedere Funeral Home, with visiting hours 2 to 5 pm on Friday. The Funeral Service will be held at Park Royal United Church at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 1, 2005, friends will be received at the church parlour from 1 until 1:45pm. Interment will be in Bloomfield United Church Cemetery at 5pm.
