Mr. Donald William Gibson August 18, 1931 - September 01, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Campbell's Funeral Home Donald William Gibson age 74, of Amherst passed away at home, September 1, 2005 surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Raymond and Eva (MacDonald) Gibson. Don served 33 years in the Canadian Air Force retiring in 1981 as a Warrant Officer. During his Military Career he served as an administrator with the Golden Hawkes in Germany as well as numerous Canadian postings and was last stationed with DND in Ottawa. After military retirement Don was employed with the former Cumberland Regional School Board as a Conveyance Officer for 16 years. He was an active member of the 105 (Cumberland) Wing of the Air Force Association of Canada for the past 16 years and was currently serving as 2nd Vice President. During his time he held several executive positions including President in 1993 as well as President of the Atlantic Group (AFAC) for 4 years from 2000 to 2004. Don was active in many community organizations including Cumberland County Museum and Fort Lawrence Heritage Association. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed all sports and all outdoor activities. Don is survived by his wife the former Charlene (Hawkes) McNutt, two sons Stephen (Joanne) and Richard (Sherry) both of Amherst, one step daughter Victoria (Mitch Cove) Bembridge of Halifax , step son Derrick Yorke of Peterborough, ON and one grandson Matthew. From a former marriage he is survived by a son Michael and daughter Deborah. Don is predeceased by his former wife Doris (Yorke) Gibson. Cremation has taken place. His family will receive visitors at Campbell's Funeral Home, (667-9906) Amherst on Saturday from 6 -9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Diligent River. Donations in Don's memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Center or the Amherst Victorian Order Of Nurses. www.campbells-amherst.ca
