George Patrick Tanner May 17, 1913 - September 07, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) TANNER, George Patrick - 92, Halifax, passed away peacefully September 7, 2005, in the VG Site, QEII, with his loving family at his side. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late John and Alice (James) Tanner. Born May 17, 1913. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving six years on convoy duty across the Atlantic. After the war he was employed with Simpson-Sears for 19 years, then went on to become director of food services at Mount Allison University, Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, and Abbey Lane Hospital. George was also the institution sales manager with Twin City Davies from where he retired. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his loving wife of 70 years, Elizabeth "Betty"; daughters, Judith A. Richards and Lynne E. (Len) Poirier; sons, Ronald A. (Rhoda) and Donald J. (Marlene); daughter-in-law, Gerry; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, George; sisters, Frances Parker and Dorothy Tobin. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with a reception to follow. Family flowers only, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
