FLEMING - L.CDR. Charles W. CD, RCN. Retired 1919 - 2005 After what he always perceived as a great life, Charlie Fleming, departed this life on Thursday, September 8, 2005, for a still greater life in the glory of God at age 85. Beloved husband of Elsie Fleming (nee Large). Loving father of Arlene Margaret Pelrine (Joseph M.) of Vancouver and David William, presently in Las Vegas. Cherished grandfather of Lynn C. and Karen L. Pelrine both of Vancouver. Dear brother of Mary Lou Dewar (Robert) of Calgary, Alice Wachter (Charlie) of Maryland, Stanley (Carol) of Fergus, ON and Douglas of Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB, Charles spent a large part of his life in Naval pursuits, starting at age 10 in Sea Cadets, then to naval reserves and eventually in the RCN, during which time he had several commands both ashore and afloat. Many friends of Charlie would remember him as just plain Chuck Fleming, particularly in the world of sport where he was a player in baseball and hockey and an active participant in modern western square dancing, both as a caller and dancer. Charles will also be remembered as a high school teacher serving under the Ottawa Board of Education at Champlain High School. Charlie's final work was a six year stint with the Royal Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, in which he proudly served in what he always expressed, was a great joy and pleasure among his veteran peers. Friends may call at All Saints Anglican Church, Westboro, 347 Richmond Road, Ottawa, on Monday, September 12, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the church on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Reception to follow in Stacey Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences, tributes or donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 9/10/2005 - 9/13/2005
