Henryk JEDWAB

JEDWAB, Henryk Son of Ella Lipska and Leo vel Laib Jedwab born in Kalisz Poland, May 15 1918 as an old soldier faded away peacefully at 23:00 September 14, 2005 at the Ottawa General Hospital. He is survived by his wife Bozena, daughter Myzska and constant companion Bacchardi. Prior to the outbreak of WWII Henryk was an officer cadet in the Polish Army. He was a medical student in Nancy France when the war broke out and immediately returned to Poland to defend his homeland in the Polish Campaign, at the end of which he made his way to France where he served with the French Army, then to England via Gibralter. His service included several SOE parchute drops into France, later serving with the British Army in North Africa, and with # 10 Inter Allied Commando in Italy. He was wounded three times and twice decorated with the Vertuti Militari, the highest Polish decoration. Among his other 22 medals he was awarded the Groix De Guerre with two palms. Upon arriving in Canada in 1950 he proudly served with the 48th Field Artillery Regiment. He had an illustrious international career as a Textile engineer. He was widowed in 1977 and after 27 years he fell in love and married Bozena and lived the last year of his life with the two women, Bozena and Myzska, whom he loved and who loved him. Memorial services will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion, 294 Cyr Ave., upper lounge at 14:00 September 20, 2005. Veterans are invited to wear decorations.
