EDWARD HUGH ROACH (1919 - 2005) Peacefully in Montreal on August 31, 2005, in his eighty-seventh year, Hugh, a dear, loving, wonderful spirit left this world for a heaven of peace and goodwill to all. Born in Cornwall, England, son of William Henry Roach and Edith May Wells Roach. Studied at Christ Church Oxford (B.A., M.A. Oxon; Centre d'Etudes Industrielles, Geneva). In 1940 he was seconded to the British Colonial Administrative Service, serving in the Gold Coast/Ghana during World War II, where he met his future wife, Lt. Maria Garcia of Austin, Texas, who was serving as a flight nurse in the U.S. Air Force. In 1949, Hugh served as Colonial Attache at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. Hugh joined Alcan Aluminum Ltd. in Montreal following the War, and retired as a senior officer of the company in 1984. Hugh will be sadly missed by family and friends. Memories of a good man will live forever. He is survived by his dearly beloved wife Maria and by nieces and nephews in the U.K. and U.S. A memorial service will be held at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex on Tuesday, September 27 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hugh may be made to a charity of your choice.
