EDNA VIOLA MCKENZIE Edna McKenzie, 84, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully as a result of complications from a series of strokes at La Verendrye Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005. She was born Nov. 29, 1920 in Emo, Ont. to Lesley and Ethel Cooper, and had resided in Rainy River District all of her life. As a child, she spent many years on Pipestone Lake, where her mother and father operated Trout Bay Lodge. Edna was united in marriage to Vern McKenzie on Oct. 21, 1939 and together they settled in Fort Frances. She worked for various businesses in Fort Frances. Edna was very focused on her family, and enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely. She loved spending time outdoors instilling the love of the lakes in her sons at very young age. She also was an avid baseball player, enjoyed travelling, and was a past member of the Rebekah’s. Edna was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert Vernon McKenzie on Oct. 18, 1993; and siblings, Hazel, Ilene, Lillian, Ivy, and Orval. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Earl and wife, Ellen, of Victoria, B.C., and Donald of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Kim and Kyle (Leza) of Winnipeg, Man.; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Amory, and Cassie; close friend and niece, Ruth LeClaire of Dryden, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. At Edna’s request, a private family interment will be held. The family gratefully requests in memoriam donations be made to the charity of your choice.
