Wilbert "Bud" Typhair, 86 On Sept. 9, 2005, Wilbert "Bud" Typhair passed away at Brockville General Hospital. Bud had been admitted on Labour Day evening with pneumonia. He passed away peacefully with his son-in-law, George Mallett, at his side. Bud was known by almost everyone due to being a village merchant (Bud's Repair Shop) and owning his own airplane for 10 years. He was born in the hamlet of Crystal Rock in Edwardsburg. The son of Sterling and Phyllis Typhair, Bud was one of five children: Teresa, Orville (deceased), Garnet and Gert. He joined the Air Force in 1941 at age 23. He became an air engine mechanic. His love of flying never left him; he was to own his own plane many years later. Bud's last posting was in Summerside, P.E.I., where he met and married Eileen MacDonald. After being discharged in 1945, he came back to Iroquois and worked for Fetterly's. In 1946, he built his home on Walker Street in Cardinal, and his daughter Evelyn was born. For many years, he worked for Harold Wells on Hwy. 2 as a mechanic and plowed the village streets. In 1964, he lost his business to a fire and moved to Walker Street. He worked long, hard hours but was always a people person, telling jokes and being known by everyone. An avid hunter, fishing and the river were his kind of recreation. Bud often worked with the police by using his Aeronca Champ plane to find people and help farmers find lost animals. Bud worked on the Coast Guard Griffon after he retired from the garage business. In 1997, he was widowed and moved into an apartment. At the time of death, he was living at 251 Lewis St., Cardinal. Left to mourn his passing are daughters Evelyn (George) Mallett, Sandra (Larry) Empey, Trudy (Doug) Snider. Bud leaves six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant daughter Sheila. Funeral arrangements were completed by Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Cardinal. Interment took place Sept. 12 in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Father Appelman officiating. Pallbearers were Dean Mallett, Trent Kochler, Clint Plant, Stan Jordon, Artie Toupin and Jack Gilligan. Honourary pallbearers were George Brown and Erwin McMillan. Flower-bearer was Lacey Mallett. Legion Branch 105 Cardinal had a special service at the funeral home, and friends and family had a luncheon and fellowship at Branch 105. Donations to a charity of choice would be greatly acknowledged.
