SCHERTZER, Katharina (nee WEISS), 1919-2005 as a result of a short illness, Katharina (Katie) passed away at Tabor Manor on Saturday, October 1st, 2005. Predeceased by her husbands, Michael in 1943 and John in 1977. Survived by her two sons Michael, 64 years and John, 50 years (Barb). Katie has five grandchildren David (Daphne), Robert (Lisa), Richard, Kyle and Katarina and two great grandchildren, Kathryn and Charles. Katie was born in Birk, Romania and married Michael Schertzer in 1940. He di ed in a P.O.W. camp in Russia and Katie took jobs as a housekeeper and maid in Austria and Germany. In 1953, her sister Mary Schertzer and brother-in-law Andy, who had immigrated to Canada, brought Katie and her son Michael, to Sherkston, Ontario whe re Tregunno Fruit Farms employed her. Katie married Andy's brother, John Schertzer and they moved to Louisa Street in St. Catharines, where John Jr. was born in 1954. Katie was employed at local canning factories and as a maid at the Welland House Ho tel in St. Catharines. She enjoyed baking and gardening at their home on Pleasant Avenue. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church on Russell Avenue. Cremation has taken place. Visitation hours are on Thursday, October 6th from 7-9pm and Friday Oct ober 7th from 2-4pm. A gathering for friends will follow at 4pm at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines. 905-684-6346.
